Moving into the next century – Virtual IT Department
Bringing a local steel service center through an ERP and facility upgrade.
Snapshot
- A large, family owned, steel service center with mill and scrap yard operations, with 75 years in business.
- Business’s 20 year old ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software lacked the resources needed to grow and compete in the sector, with no clear upgrade path
- Changes in customer steel product needs, with a changing focus to custom steel services that required the facility to interact with systems on the warehouse floor to process orders
- The campus facility contains three separate divisions that were not interconnected in any meaningful way on a 20 acre facility.
Challenge
To help a 75 year old steel service center unify its three separate business units onto one platform, find an exit strategy from their old ERP system, and unify the campus on a wired and wireless network with consolidated network resources.
Solution
- Assist management in developing a needs basis to evaluate new ERP solutions, and work with the business to evaluate, assess, and implement a plan to migrate to a new platform, solving major business process issues.
- Design, implement, and manage a campus area fiber, copper, and wireless switched network that allows secure connectivity to all campus resources, with redundancy against failure.
- Build a new shared server network, with a storage area network (SAN), to consolidate email, file, database, and video security systems
- Implementation of Prospera managing key network infrastructure, desktops, and servers with helpdesk, remote, and on-site services, while building a disaster recovery plan with off-site backup systems.
- Assist the client with Prospera’s ability to bid the project, and maintain ongoing management with our fixed cost models.
